Notes from Mrs. Caso

This chapter deals with writing equations to represent lines. It's like doing the problems in the last chapter backward. The equations we write will be in terms of x and y and will take on a variety of forms. Each section will introduce a new form. There are three basic forms: slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard.

Although you won't be doing as much graphing, you will still be doing some scatter plots. So, you should still bring a ruler and graph paper to class. as there will be review problems in most of the homework assignments.

You will be allowed to use a "cheat sheet" on the test. I will provide the cheat sheet for you. A copy of it is in the Interactive Materials to the right.

Reflections Prompts

  • 5.5 - Remember that correlation means relationship between two measurements. Think of three pairs of measurements where
1.) one pair has a positive correlation
2.) one pair has a negative correlation
3.) one pair has relatively no correlation
    and list them.
  • 5.6 - Describe the steps needed to write an equation in standard form when you are given 2 points on the line. You may use an example problem, but must write the steps as instructions to someone reading your paper.
  • 5.7 - Compare and contrast the different forms of linear equations that we have covered in this chapter. What are they? In what ways are they alike? In what ways do they differ?
