TEXTBOOK:
Integrated Mathematics 1, Kanold,
Burger, et al., Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES:
The fundamental purpose of
Integrated Math 1 is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students
learned in the middle grades. The critical areas, organized into units, deepen
and extend understanding of linear relationships, in part by contrasting them
with exponential phenomena, and in part by applying linear models to data that
exhibit a linear trend. Integrated Math 1 uses properties and theorems involving
congruent figures to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from
prior grades. The final unit in the course ties together the algebraic and
geometric ideas studied. Aligned to Ohio’s New Learning Standards in Mathematics
for the integrated pathway, the Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout
each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students
experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use
of their ability to make sense of problem situations. This course replaces
Algebra 1 in the traditional pathway.

GRADING SCALE: The grading scale will follow that of North Olmsted High School. Please refer to Student Handbook for questions regarding the calculation of grades.
MODULAR ASSESSMENTS:
Assessments will be given at the end of each Module.
The point value of the assessment will vary
depending on the content. Students
must discuss with me a possible time to make up a missed assessment.
An
unexcused absence on the day of the assessment will result in a score of 0.
Any assessment not made up within 1 week will result
in a score of 0.
HOMEWORK: Assignments will be given daily and are due the next school
day after being assigned. These assignments are checked for completeness, not
correctness. It is the student's responsibility to understand the material.
Homework missed due to excused absences can be turned in without penalty within
the number of days missed. Please refer to the Student Handbook regarding make
up work.
EXTRA HELP:
Students seeking extra help should come to room H229
during SOAR period.
DISCLAIMER: This is not meant to be all encompassing. As the year progresses, there may be a need for additional assignments or modifications to expectations.
