Statistical Analysis
I performed three chi-square significance tests of
independence.
Political Affiliation v. Age Category
The obtained chi- square value was 1.785. The
p-value was 0.775. However, since not all of my expected cell
counts were greater than five, I did not meet the required assumptions
for this test and my results are therefore invalid. If my results
had been valid I would have failed to reject the null hypothesis at any
reasonable level of significance, because the p-value was extremely
high.
Age Category v. Question One
Question One: Do you think that the U.S should
pursue peaceful negotiations with Iran and Korea?
The obtained chi-square value was 1.938. the p-value was 0.379.
Like in the first test, not all of expected cell counts were greater
than five, and I do not meet the requirements for the test. my
results are therefore invalid. I cannot make a conclusion.
If my results had been valid, I would have failed to rejected the null
hypothesis at any reasonable level of significance.
Age Category v. Question Two
Question Two: Do you think that undocumented
workers should be deported?
The obtained chi square value was 4.583. The p-value was 0.103.
Again, because the expected cell counts were not greater than five, I
cannot make a valid conclusion. However, if my results had been
valid, I would still have failed to reject the null hypothesis, even
though the p-value was close to being reject at the 0.10 level of
significance.
Since none of my tests met the assumption required for the Chi-square
test of independence, none of results are valid. I cannot make any
conclusions from the collected data.
