Weaknesses

Most of the weaknesses within our study were response-error related to our survey. For example people would have ridiculous responses like they use 150,000 minutes per month, or they would say they do not have a cell phone yet they use minutes and send texts. The main problem is that most of the response we got back were estimations, the surveyed subjects did not have their cell phone bill in front of them to say exactly how man minutes they use and how many minutes they use. Another response-error we had was we didn’t get all of the surveys back, this could have been due to the fact we some of the students didn’t go to the high school anymore or if they just never turned in the survey. Out of the 200 surveys we sent out, we got 132 surveys back of which 30 were thrown away due to response errors. So in the end to find our statistical data we used 102 surveys, 51 male, and 51 female.

Extrapolation

We believe we could extrapolate this data to a higher level. There is nothing significant about North Olmsted High School that holds us from expanding our study to a broader population. We believe that if we generalized the survey across Northeast Ohio we could come up with similar data.

Improvements and Suggestions

To improve our data and further improve our study we could make the survey and the conditions in which it is taken more efficient. For example each survey we handed out we could give to the students personally and watch them do the survey to make sure they do it correctly. We could personally collect our responses and make sure that the students we survey do attend the school at the time of the survey. Another way to improve our study is we could make the questions on the survey more clear. Also the survey could ask the subjects to look at their cell phone bills so we could get an accurate response instead of estimation.
