Weakness
Our study has several key weaknesses that might have influenced the data. Not all of our surveys were returned, and the unreturned ones could have changed our P-Value significantly enough (but it’s pretty safe to say it would have still been over our alpha value). Another weakness is that alot of the people we sampled did not drive, so their data was unusable. Stratifying the sample into only 16 year old students or older eliminated most of the non-drivers, but not all. Another weakness to this study is response bias, as some people might have lied when responding to our question of “have you ever texted while driving”.
Extrapolation
Our study would be suitable for further extrapolation. This
study could effectively be extrapolated across any high
school in the United States, as long as the age would stay
in the 16-18 year range, and the people surveyed had cell
phones with texting capabilities. As long as those 2
variables stayed constant, most populations would be viable
for further extrapolation.
Suggestions
There are a couple of things that could be improved on to
make our study more effective. One would be to find out
beforehand if our subjects drove or not, as that would
eliminate any non-usable returned surveys. Another idea
would have been to send out more surveys, as that might have
changed our data around a bit.
