POPULATION OF INTEREST For our study the population of interest consisted of the students at North Olmsted High School. The students consisted of males and females, in all grades 9-12, excluding teachers and other staff members. SAMPLING METHOD To conduct our study, we were given a list of all of the students who attend North Olmsted High School. Once we obtained the list of students we plugged the list into a Minitab software, which generated a randomly selected list of 75 students. We then sent out an annonymous survey containing two questions we would like each student to answer; 1) How many mintues do you spend on Facebook daily? 2) Approximately, what was your 3rd Quarter Grade Point Average? For each question their was a few possible mutiple choice answers and there answers were to remain private. SAMPLE SURVEY 1. How many minutes do you spend on Facebook daily? A. 0-30 minutes B. 30-60 minutes C. 60-120 minutes D. 120+ minutes 2. Approximately, what was your 3rd Quarter Grade Point Average? E. 0-1.0 F. 1.1-2.0 G. 2.1-3.0 H. 3.1-4.0+ Testing and Results - Using a Chi-Squared Test 1. Ho: There is no association between the amount of time spent on Facebook to a person's G.P.A. 2. Ha: There is an association between the amount of time spent on Facebook to a person's G.P.A. 3.α = .05 4. Test statistic: χ²=Σ((observed cell count-expected cell count)²/(expected cell count)) 5. Assumptions: The sample was randomly selected from all of the students who are enrolled at North Olmsted High School. All expected cell counts were greater than 5. 6. We can reject the null hypothesis at any reasonable level of significance because of our p-value of .003. Therefore we have sufficient evidence to say that there is an association between the amount of time spent on facebook to a person's G.P.A. |
