Our study was conducted at the Panera in North Olmsted to conclude whether
there is a significant difference between gender that goes to Panera. We
collected our data fron 4pm-6pm the week of May 4-May8.
Abstract
Posted on May 12 by Ryan Hudson
We conducted a study that looked at what gender walked into the
Panera in North Olmsted more often. During our research of topics to
study we couldn’t find a study that looked at the correlation
between these two topic. We decided a good restaurant to conduct our
survey would be Panera because people go there for work meeting, to
study, or to eat and this gives the opportunity for all types of
people to come to the store. We sat by the door and recorded the
gender of each person who walked into the store from 4pm to 6pm the
week of May 4th - May 8th. We separated the two hours into twelve
ten-minute intervals letting us collect a sample size of 60
intervals. We entered our data into minitab on the the computer.
This helped us create graphs and run the hypothesis test for our
data. We used a t-test because we used sample data instead of the
population data. We got a t-value of -6.19. The probability was then
changed to 0.00. We reject the null hypothesis at any given
significance because the p-value will be lower than any alpha value.
Therefore, we have sufficient evidence that females walk into Panera
more often than males.
About Panera
Panera started in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co. The company purchased Saint Louis
Bread Company, a chain of 20 bakery-cafes in St. Louis. They remodeled the
stores and changed the names to Panera Bread. With all its potential the owners
sold all of Au Bon Pain Co. buisness units except for Panera Bread and and
invested the money in Panera Bread. Today the company has grown to one of the
worlds top 100 companys. They have done this by making fresh food and coffee
daily including bringing fresh dough to its stores daily. They have capitolized
by creating a great work space for students and adults including free wi-fi for
eveyone.
