We start by creating a new project and opening up the excel by going into network folder, then into AP statistics folder , then selecting the comprehensive course project folder. In the folder, select the most recent year roster for students enrolled at NOHS. Since our focus is only the seniors, we use the sort command to sort names for seniors. After we sort the names for the seniors, we use calc random - sample from columns in minitab. We type in 30 for sample size in Number of rows. Then click ok. We will do our sampling without replacement.
Significance test:
The appropriate statistical test for our data is a T-Test for sample mean because our question of interest asks if the true mean is greater than 24
1) mu = the true mean ACT score of NOHS seniors
2) H0:mu= 24
3) Ha:mu > 24
4) ALPHA: 0.05
5) Assumptions:
1. Sample is random
2. The population is normal because n = 34 > 30 and
therefore the central limit theorem applies.
6) T= .0541
7) P-VALUE= .4786
We failed to reject the null hypothesis at any reasonable level of significance because the p value was greater than alpha. Therefore, there is not convincing evidence to say that the true mean ACT SCORE for NOHS Seniors is greater than 24.
