Gender Maturity Among Teens

Weaknesses

Weaknesses present in our study include the fact that the sample was not very large. We had some response-error associated with the surveys since some students circled more than one answer which made us exclude them from our sample. Also, some non-response bias was present since not all of the surveys were sent back. Also, our survey was not long enough to explore the true maturity of all of the survey takers. Many other questions could have been included that could determine the level of a student’s maturity. A confounding variable for this study could be the grade level of the survey takers. The grade that the students were in could have influenced our results. The freshman males could have been the cause to the lower maturity level for males than females, especially if the freshman were a majority in our sample. Also, we believe that some might have not taken our surveys very seriously since some answers in some questions implied complete maturity while the next question showed complete immaturity.

  

Extrapolation:

Our results can be extrapolated to any high school in Ohio or surrounding states. The fact that the environment people live in influences the way they act and think limits the extent at which our study can be extrapolated. Ohio could have more mature teenagers than Florida and California since the majority of the teenagers there are stereotyped to be spoiled by their rich parents which might lead their maturity level to decrease.

 Suggestions for Further Work:

Further work in our area of study can include conducting a similar survey on a larger population. The study can also be conducted by grade levels instead of genders. The study can also be extended to comparing college students to high school students and determining if there is a difference in maturity levels between them
