Abstract

The purpose of our study was to ascertain if a relationship existed between the speed of track runners at North Olmsted High School versus their height. We planned to investigate the relationships with respect to each gender and then compare the relationships with respect to each other.

Data was collected during the last week of March for both the male and female track runners. 36 females and 30 males ran a timed 400 meter sprint and their times and their heights (in inches) were recorded.

Two model utility tests for simple linear regressions were used to analyze the data for each gender. In each case, the p-value greatly exceeded the set alpha value, and the null hypotheses were not rejected. Therefore no useful relationships existed between heights and times for male and female track runners at North Olmsted High School. Since no relationships existed, a difference in correlation hypothesis test could not be run, and the relationships could not be compared with respect to each other.
