For the first part of our research, Google was our first search engine to use. It suggested that smoking may lead to the connection of drinking with teens inside of the brain. The younger the body begins to smoke, the easier and more adaptable the brain is to linking other addictions with smoking. In this study they found that nearly 50% of adolescents are more likely to drink if they smoke. The younger bodies are becoming more adaptable to addicting habits such as drinking and especially smoking. It is becoming a growing trend for teens today to begin these two habits according to this particular study.

For a second part of preparing for our study we found more information on it. In the years 1992 and 1996, surveys were sent out to those who drink, don’t drink, smoke, don’t smoke and don’t do either. Their results came out to be that those who drink and smoke were on a regular general basis. U.S. whites had the conclusion of heavier smoking and drinking associations. This study did talk about how different regions of the world have higher drinking and smoking problems because it is more accessible to them based on the limits of buying those items. The United States does have a higher age for drinking than most countries along with smoking. Therefore one would think that the rates would be lower of the drinking and smoking consumptions in the United States, but results have shown that they are actually higher. Underage drinkers and smokers see that they are not supposed to do this and thrive on being rebellious.
