Statement of the Problem

We chose to research the effects of parents influence on religious and political socialization. The reason we chose these is because our group of three students all have strong political views and strong feelings on religion, and are interested in knowing if the reason for these beliefs is influenced by the parental figures in our own lives and others’ lives.

Abstract  

The project we have chosen to do is on political and religious socialization from parents to students. We started off by coming up with a topic we all agreed could have an intersting and informing outcome. We all had wondered if a student's view on both religion and politics vary from that of their parents. Besides that, we wanted to know about how all the student's felt on politics and religion, as our feelings within our group were of a wide range.

We as a group did background research on the topic of religious and political socialization, on other studies that had been conducted in the past. We learned from those studies that in general, a person's views can differ from those of their parents, but for the most part they are the same, or at least similar.

We decided to do four questions on our topic, we asked how religious the student was, how strong their opinions on politics were, both on a scale of one to 10.             

We then asked how closely the student's religious views resembled their parent's, and how closely their political views resembled those of their parents.

    We recieved 44 surveys back out of the 80 we sent out. Unfortunately, our sample size ended up being too small for the chi-square test, our column totals did not add up to the required amount.
