Weaknesses In Our Study
There were several weaknesses in our study. First of all, we chose to define a person's taste in music by their favorite band. This may have led to inaccurate results because it is making a wide generalization. Also, we noticed a large response bias when collecting the data from our surveys. Some of the surveys were not filled out and some were never even returned. Also, several of the surveys were not filled out accurately. For example, some were answered with "I don't know", a couple were filled out with answers clearly intended to be a joke, and 3 were filled out identically. Our results could also have not been accurate because we are trusting people to tell the truth about their GPA, and they could have easily lied. There are no confounding variables that effected our results.
We don't feel comfortable extrapolating our results because the student population at every school is different and diverse. Also, we don't feel that our results are even very accurate for the population of North Olmsted High School, so it would not make sense to apply the data to a broader population.
We suggest further studying into this topic, we recommend using a larger sample size because of numerous genres. We also would suggest to apply this study to more than a single highschool, and more than 200 students from each highschool.
