Statement of the Problem:
Our study is focused on figuring out if the proportions of flavors, strawberry, grape, orange, peach, and raspberry of fruit snacks in Welch’s Mixed Fruit Snack packs are the same. We were interested in running a study on this topic because we are curious as to if the proportions of the different flavors are equal or not. It will be interesting to see if there are generally higher or lower proportions for certain flavors when compared to the other ones.
Abstract:
Through this study we wanted to determine if the flavor proportions of the five different flavors in Welch's Mixed Fruit Snacks is the same. We obtained our sample by going to the Costco in Avon, Ohio and buying an 80 count box of the 0.9 oz Welch's Mixed Fruit Snacks. We counted all of the fruit snacks in 80, 0.9 oz bags of Welch's Mixed Fruit Snacks and recorded how many of each flavor were in each bag to obtain our data. Since we could not find any previous research done on this topic, for the chi-squared goodness of fit test we used 0.2 as the expected proportion for all five flavors. We found that the proportions of flavors were not all equal, with a p-value of 0. We then decided to test the proportion between grape and strawberry and then peach and strawberry, just to see if their proportions were significantly different or not. We found that the proportion of flavors for grape and strawberry were significantly different, while the proportions for strawberry and peach were not significantly different. Since we could not find previous studies, we do not have anything to compare our results to.
