Study

Sampling: For my sampling process, I took the list of all current students at North Olmsted High School and randomly selected 150 students through minitab. (Calc>Random Data>Sample from Columns function) I, then, got all of their schedules and sent them each a survey. My population of interest  was the current student body at North Olmsted High School.

The survey is as follows…

Please circle you gender:

Male              Female

Approximently how many hours do you spend on social media a day?

_______ hours

Significance test: I used a two sample t test to complete this study

1.    μ 1 = mean number of hours females spend on social media per day
μ 2 = mean number of hours males spend on social media per day

2.     Null hypothesis: μ 1 > μ 2

3.     Alternative Hypothesis:  μ 1 ≠ μ 2

4.     Level of significance alpha: 0.05

5. Assumptions: The data was a random sample, normal, and enough studies were used.

6.

7. T-value= 2.97

8. P-value= 0.002

9. failed to reject the null hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance since the p-value is less than α. Therefore, there is not sufficient evidence to say the number of hours females use social media is greater than the number of  hours males use social media at North Olmsted High School.

Two-sample T for Females vs Males
          N  Mean  StDev  SE Mean
Females  56  4.75   5.48     0.73
Males    51  2.35   2.40     0.34
Difference = mu (Females) - mu (Males)
Estimate for difference:  2.393
95% lower bound for difference:  1.051
T-Test of difference = 0 (vs >): T-Value = 2.97  P-Value = 0.002  DF = 76
