Conclusion

Our situation was a complex one. Through several graph analyses, we found a very small correlation coefficient for all three graphs--linear, quadratic, cubic. The r-square value is the correlation of determination which sees how close the data is to the regression line. We found an r-square value of only 0.006 for the linear regression line. Because of this, we decided to test other regressions, specifically quadratic and cubic. In all three graphs, the correlation of determination was under .15 which indicates a very weak relationship. The higher the correlation of determination, the closer the data fits the graph. A weak correlation has an r-square value of 0-.49. Therefore, all three graphs exhibit a weak correlation. The graph the best fits the data is the cubic graph, however, even that has a small r-squared value. All in all, we can conclude that there is no correlation between number of hours worked, and one’s GPA.
