Is there a significant difference between the shopping habits of men and women?
There is already significant evidence that women are more likely to be the primary shopper of their households, but this study seeks to identify any differences in total amount spent per shopping trip by men and women respectively. Changing gender roles and shifts in family structure over the last several decades have altered the chores and household roles of men and women. By using a large sample of shoppers, I expect to conclude decisively whether women spend more per shopping trip than men, or if the two means are effectively equal.
I'm a cashier at the local Marc's Great Northern store, so this provided a great opportunity to collect a large amount of data on grand totals for male and female customers. I collected data over three weekends in April, on 4/5, 4/11, 4/12, 4/18, and 4/19.
