Do females pack more lunches than males?
First, I started looking for some background research, to see if there were any other studies conducted. After many attempts I have concluded that no other study was conducted.
I decided to have a sample size of 150 students including every grade level. I randomly chose 150 students and gave them a survey. The survey asked them if they had a lunch period, their gender, and what they did on a average week, pack a lunch, buy a school lunch, or not eat a lunch.
Only 120 surveys were returned and of those 120, 20 were removed because of the response of not eating a lunch.
After performing a significance test, I have found that the p-value is well over the significance level, indicating that the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. Therefore we have insufficient evidence to say that the proportion of females who pack a lunch is greater than the proportion of males.
Is the proportion of females who pack a lunch greater than males? The purpose of this study is to find out if more females pack lunches than males in North Olmsted High School. I chose this topic because as I was eating my lunch in the cafeteria, I observed that more females seem to pack their lunches than males. Some students think that the school lunch is not nutritional so they decide to pack their own lunch. The key issue is whether your gender affects whether or not you pack your lunch.
