statement of the problem
The purpose of my study is to determine whether the mean
composite
score for students that studied
for the ACT is greater than the mean composite score for
students that didn’t study. I became interested in this
topic after taking the ACT myself. I realized how unfair of
a representation it was of a student’s skills. Additionally,
some students are simply better at taking tests than others.
This one test could be the difference between a student
being accepted or rejected by the college of their choice
and that doesn’t seem right. Through this study, I hope to
show that studying, in fact, does not raise composite test
scores on the ACT above the scores of students’ who didn’t
study for students at North Olmsted High School.
