This survey was created to discover if more than a quarter of the students here at North Olmsted High School actually use their cell phones during the school day even though they are told not to.

Our sample was drawn from the entire population at North Olmsted High School.  We chose 160 students through a random generator on MintiTab.  Only 106 surveys were returned to us.  Our survey was anonymous and explained that students would not be punished no matter what their results were, attempting to make our survey unbiased.

Our background research gave supporting facts on why cell phones should not be used and it gave documents of why parents and students feel their cell phones are necessary.

After gathering and organizing our data, we used a one proportion Z test to test our information.  This test showed that at least a quarter of the schools population, which has a cell phone, uses it during the day.  The information also demonstrates that it is likely that a larger proportion than 0.25 use their cell phones.
